Ultimaps Features, Usage, and Review

What Is Ultimaps?

Although Ultimaps is in beta at the time of the writing of this article, we're very excited about the utility this tool can provide in the future. With that being said, we love the creative versatility that Ultimaps has to offer in its current stage too!

Ultimaps is a visualization tool that takes your Excel, Google Spreadsheet, and or Notion data and generates color-coded interactive maps in mere seconds. This tool enables users to create maps with varying information, such as categorical data, numerical data, and presence representation with no code. Once you have your desired collection of data represented on your newly generated map, you can customize the colors that will make your map pop!

How Does Ultimaps Work?

You start in the Ultimaps "studio" section, where you are first asked what base country/continent map you would like to reference for your new project. Then, you are asked to select between three different types of maps you can create: Illustration, Category Chart, and Choropleth Chart.

A breakdown of the these three types of maps by use case:

  • Users who don't have any data to import would select the "Illustration" option
  • For things such as election results and classifications, the "Category Chart" option would be best
  • For users who would like to visually represent data like economic indicators or public health statistics, the "Choropleth Chart" is the apt selection

Once you've selected the appropriate map type, you'll will be introduced to your new map outline, which you can then customize state by state (or territory by territory). You can then import data, add a legend for reference, change the overall map's theme, and much more.

Ultimaps Cons

  • Although color and text customization options are satisfactory, we wish there was more that this tool had more to offer in terms of interactivity and other customization aspects (more will likely be added soon enough as the tool is only in beta currently)
  • We would love to see more integrations regarding sources users can import data from
  • Although we can understand why this is necessary, we wish that you didn't have to create an account to save your work
